There are four main questions that readers want answered on your About Me page:

  1. who you are…
  2. your expertise and how it addresses…
  3. their problem or goal, and how they can…
  4. contact you

Here is a sample “About Me” page that answers these questions:

Hi, I’m Jane Smith and I write TransitionMomBlog (who Jane is) to help women make the transition from full-time mom to successful entrepreneur (the reader’s problem or goal). I started TransitionMomBlog in 2004 (Jane’s expertise – shows she has been blogging for two years) to help other women deal with the sometimes overwhelming prospect of starting a new business while still running a household (how Jane helps them overcome their problem or achieve their goal). Prior to raising my family, I spent over ten years as a teacher, corporate trainer and workshop leader (Jane’s expertise, both as a mom and a business person). To contact me, please email XXX (how to contact Jane).

Remember Microsoft’s “downgrade” license option for Windows Vista that forces customers who want Windows XP to buy a Vista copy along with it? As expected, a lot of users are taking “advantage” of that option to stick with Windows XP even as Microsoft gloats at their Vista sales numbers and tells their customers that they’re stupid to not like it.

According to an InfoWorld story, 35% of Vista users have gone back to Windows XP after having paid for its seven-year younger sibling. That’s one in every three business PCs. Oh, how much they must loathe Vista to even consider such a thing, let alone do it without so much as blinking an eye. Of course, Microsoft still keeps lumbering on unabated, putting on a cheerful face and singing praises of Windows Vista, even as they frantically work on Windows 7.

If “buyer’s remorse” describes regret and self-doubt after a costly purchase, then
“upgrader’s remorse” seems to sum up the feelings some people have
after switching to Windows Vista.

Help is here:  How to Downgrade from Vista to XP

Google Calendar

August 29, 2008

Search giant Google has announced a free, Web-based ’shareable’ calendar service called, appropriately enough, Google Calendar, which allows users to post up events and share them with others.

Calendar owners can send out invitations to their chums and keep track of their responses and comments (like, "Bog off weirdo – we’re not coming to your party").

Conveniently, friends can still receive and add responses to your invites even if they don’t use Google Calendar themselves.
